Weekend Special – Insane Killer
Ok thanks for all your comments to my post regarding the difficulty of some puzzles. I completely changed the rating system and created a large number of puzzles just to test it. As promised – I just posted an extra killer puzzle, rated (by the new rating system) as INSANE. It’s actually one of the puzzles with the highest overall difficulty rating – I hope you find this one challenging. If not – well, I’ll have to redo the rating again :).
Let me know how you feel about this one…
Have a good weekend!

The weekend Killer took hubby 45 mins to do – now he is bored.
Cannot get enough of these to keep him going/amused.
I really enjoyed this one. Found it hard to get started and then a really nice flow as the possibilities narrowed. Took me over an hour. Time well (mis)spent:-). Many thanks and keep up the good work.
More, more, more ……..
About one hour to “get rid” of the insane….
I really enjoy Insane more than other difficulty levels…
Thank you again for your beautiful work!
Matteo

Excellent insane killer! Took me about 45 min.
Congrats,

robert,
The insane killer on Sunday is available in the Daily Killer Sudoku column:
Afterward it will be moved to the “puzzle archive”:

I found this one quite challenging, and deserve the rating of “insane”. I even applied x-wing in some stage, although it might not be really necessary. I guess what made me feel uneasy was the need to add up a large group of cells. Pardon me but I just prefer to perform mind computation instead of using a calculator (a real one). In this puzzle there are outies of whole bands and stacks and while I was capable of those it just took more time and strained my brain a little bit. Next time I won’t hesitate to open the Excel sheet and let the CPU do all those manual chores…
It’s no good – I’m obviously missing something here. Please can someone give me a little extra clue, I’ve only got 5 numbers so far: r3c7=2, r4c9=4, r5c9=2, r7c7=1, c7c8=2. Lots of candidates in the right hand stack (box 6 with naked pairs and a triplet) and a number of split cages but they don’t seem to help.
Thanks.
