Thanks for these kinds of puzzles. Are you working on a program for your faithful that will generate and solve these kinds of puzzles? There are already programs out there, but I do not believe that they check to be sure that they can be solved with logic only. In fact, one program let’s you create a puzzle, but it isn’t checked for logic.
nj3h, I already have a program of that kind, but it probably won’t be released as it is now. At some point I will release a stripped down version which will only implement the basic “unknown cells” solving method.
Are there any other hanjie games on this site?ever since i found out about hanji/ many other names for it, ive been addicted.
Brian, so far I have posted only two Hanjie puzzles. But there will be more! 🙂
I have (thanks to a Finnish friend sending them overseas) the two issues of Hanjie already released with your puzzles; we were both at first confused, because you had never mentioned doing these kinds of puzzles, but now it is confirmed. =)
I do have to be critical, though. Many of the pictures lack any form of detail, and act merely as silhouettes; having such large fillable areas in the huge puzzles means they lack any form of challenge. If you want to see what I mean, pick up a Japanese publication (any will do, but Logic Paradise is a nice one) to see some of the detailed puzzles in their 60×80 grids to see just how much better they are. I can send samples, BTW, as I have converted an entire issue to a program I have that reads Nonogram (Hanjie, Griddler, etc.) puzzles, so please let me know if you want to see them. Working on the solutions scanned from another issue now, because I want to solve them. =)
Not to rain on your parade, but that is my honest opinion. The puzzles from here could use some work. =)

I also have a reply to nj3h. Visit the Conceptis Forums (I won’t advertise, search Google for “Conceptis”), open the Fresh Supplies forum (have to register), and look for a thread called “First beta online”. You’ll find the most updated version of PicPuz, a program that not only reads Pic-A-Pix (Hanjie) puzzles, but also works with Colour PAP, Link-A-Pix, and Fill-A-Pix puzzles. All are available at that site; four free puzzles every week of each type, plus some Sudoku variants. They also have Kakuro, Battleships, and Hitori as their most recent additions to the weekly puzzles. =)
So far the solve function works only on regular Hanjies, but that’s what you wanted, yes? =)

I like to print my solutions out when I print the puzzle so that I can check my answers before I’m screwed. Tell me I’m not the only one who noticed that the solution link doesn’t work?

No, the solution doesn’t work. All I get is a ‘£’ picture. Even if I save it.
The picture is the solution! Perhaps you wanted a more detailed image showing exactly which squares should be filled in – in which case you’ll have to ask DJ for a bigger picture.
OMG, now I cringe with embarassment :-S I realised after I correctly solved it that it WAS the solution! It misled me, as it was sooooo small, and the puzzle itself so big – to print and solve it I had to resize it to 25%.
