I did the samurai sudoku in this past sunday’s washington post. as i was finishing the top right set of blocks, i noticed that there are two possible solutions. in the uppermost right line, 3 and 9 are interchangeable. in the bottommost right line, 3 and 9 are interchangeable because they depend on the top line. i did check all the other blocks throughout and each has numbers 1-9, so i think there are two possible solutions to this particular samurai sudoku.
Kathy,
I keep repeating this – each 9×9 sub-puzzle can have more than one solution, but there is only one solution to the whole puzzle.
Please read this article: http://www.djapedjape.com/2006/03/06/all-puzzles-have-one-solution-only/ and all articles that are linked from it.
If you still believe there is more than one solution, please copy both solutions to the entire puzzle and send it to me.
Thanks,
DJ.
