Killer Sudoku with all operators in TwoDoku format

I don’t think I’ve ever posted a puzzle like this one. Yes it is essentially a Killer puzzle. Yes, it’s also an overlapping sudoku puzzle, Gattai-2 (TwoDoku). But it also has some similarity with Calcudoku puzzles, because you must use all four operators (+, -, *, /). Killer TwoDoku with all ops for Tuesday, February 2, 2010 – Difficulty: BRAIN. Jigsaw+Classic Sudoku combination

Today’s puzzle on the Daily Sudoku variants page is somewhat ambiguous. This is why I’m duplicating it here on the main page. Basically, it’s a Classic and Jigsaw Sudoku combination. In addition to 9 Jigsaw nonets, there are 9 classic Sudoku nonets too. You have to use them both in order to solve the puzzle. Since it’s first of its kind, it’s rather easy, but give it a go to see how you like them. By the way, a few of these can be found in the Jigsaw Sudoku book volume 2. Outside Non-Consecutive Sudoku

I announced this one when I posted my first Outside Sudoku puzzle: it’s a non consecutive Outside Sudoku. Even though it looks like a regular Sudoku puzzle, you must follow one extra rule: two touching numbers must not be consecutive. Outside Jigsaw Sudoku

Another novelty in 2010 – Outside Jigsaw Sudoku. Read the rules of Outside Sudoku first. And then, twist it a little – it’s a Jigsaw (Irregular) Sudoku puzzle! UPDATE: One clarification about the rules of Outside Jigsaw Sudokus: The clues tell you which numbers appear in the 3 closest cells in that row/column. They are not linked to (jigsaw) nonets. Oh, and I’ve posted the solution. Outside Jigsaw Sudoku for Monday, January 11, 2010 – Difficulty: BRAIN. Click on the puzzle thumbnail to access the puzzle.

Nurikabe

As you may have noticed, I’ve changed things a little on the site, by removing some of the daily puzzles. While Daily Killer Sudoku and Daily Sudoku variation will remain, as well as bi-Weekly Samurai Sudoku, all other puzzles will be posted here, on the main page of the site. Expect at least a couple of puzzles every week, if not more. All sorts of puzzles will be posted, with no particular schedule. So, next up is Nurikabe. I’ve only ever posted one of them and I’m still working on determining the difficulty of them, so please let me know how difficult you find them. If you are uncertain about the rules of Nurikabe, read my Nurikabe introductory article. Nurikabe 10×10 for January 8, 2010 Click on the puzzle thumbnail to access the puzzle.

Outside Sudoku

Here is something new (for this site) for the New Year: Outside Sudoku. This puzzle is also shown today on the Daily Sudoku variants page, but I thought I should properly introduce it. The rules: 1. For the 9×9 grid all standard Sudoku rules apply. However, you don’t have any starting clues in there! 2. The clues are given outside the grid. 0, 1, 2 or 3 numbers are shown. 3. These clues tell you which numbers appear in the 3 closest cells in the grid, IN ANY ORDER (not necessarily in the order they are given in). In other words, the clues for a row tell you which numbers appear in the corresponding row and the closest nonet (3×3 box). Same for columns. Click on the puzzle thumbnail to access the puzzle.
Outside Sudoku Compendium 130 puzzles

I hope you will like it. I might start including them on the Daily Sudoku page, of course in some variant version (the non-consecutive outside sudoku type looks particularly interesting).

The Washington Post stops printing my Samurai Sudoku puzzles (NOT!) :)

Bad news folks, I’m afraid: the Samurai Sudoku puzzle printed in the Comics section of The Washington Post on Sunday, December 27, 2009, would’ve been the last Samurai puzzle printed in this newspaper. After four years and more than 200 Samurai puzzles, they have decided to stop this feature. From the editor: “The change is part of a larger agreement … and is not a result of any dissatisfaction with your puzzle.” On the other hand, my Samurai puzzles will continue to feature in the Washington Express (the free newspaper) every Friday. As a reminder to those who enjoy my Samurais, you can find two of them every week on the Samurai Sudoku page. Or, you can order my books with Samurai puzzles here:
The Way of Samurai Sudoku, volume 2

The Way of Samurai Sudoku, volume 1

The Way of Samurai Sudoku, volume 3

UPDATE: A few months later, Washington post restarted publishing my Samurai puzzles!
