Harakiri Sudoku X

For die hard fans of big Sudoku puzzles, here is another one – Sudoku Harakiri X! Basically, it’s a double-Samurai Sudoku puzzle: 8 classic sub-puzzles, which of course don’t have their own (unique) solutions but all together constitute a puzzle with a single solution. This time, however, you must also pay attention to diagonals: ALL diagonals in the puzzle must contain all numbers from 1 to 9. The diagonals are marked in the puzzle so you wouldn’t forget them. Click on the puzzle thumbnail to access the puzzle.

lateral thinker #1

Mike started a new and interesting topic in the forum.
Maybe this will work, maybe not. I will give you some information. You can ask yes/no questions which I will answer. Find out what happened. “There is a phone box next to a river with a man dead inside. The phone is off the hook and there is some glass on the ground”.
If you want to take part in solving this, you can do so here.

Killer Sudoku and Killer Samurai in France

Multimediapress from France have started publishing our puzzles in their monthly magazines. To the best of my knowledge (please correct me if I’m wrong), they are the first in the world to publish Killer Samurai puzzles in press. I wish them good luck and I expect more visitors from France to our site. 🙂 This is what the magazine (title Super Su Doku) looks like so if you haven’t got your copy yet – go get it!

Classic Sudoku Solving Techniques

It’s about time I finally explained the basic (and most common) Sudoku solving techniques. Most of you are already familiar with these, but for those who aren’t – I’d like to show my explanation. These techniques are used in ALL sudoku puzzles – Classic, Killer, Samurai and others. Make sure you fully understand them before you attempt to solve the more difficult puzzles. I will be using one classic Sudoku puzzle in which I will demonstrate how each of the techniques contributes to the final solution. Perhaps you’ve already seen this particular puzzle: Solving techniques

Prisoners on death row in a row riddle

This is off-topic, but since many people have shown interest for brain teasers in the forum, I decided to create a category here and start posting them. So, thanks to Shai, here is the first riddle in this category:
OK guyz, here’s another one: 50 prisoners on death row are scheduled to be executed tomorrow. It so happens that there’s a new king around in the courtry and tomorrow is his first birthday since he got the job, and therefore he decides to pardon some death row prisoners. Before the king became king he was a crazy mathematician, always evaluating people according to their logical skills, and hence he decides on the following scenario: All 50 prisoners will stand in one (straight) line, facing to the same direction (each sees the one in front of him). After that the guards will come (there are a thousand guards) and put blindfolds on the prisoners. After that each prisoner will be given a hat, either a Black or a White one, and wear it. Then the guards will take the blindfolds off. No prisoner can see his own hat, or the the hats of the prisoners behind him in the line, he can see all the hats which are on the side of the line he is looking at (same side as before). If a prisoner will look at his own hat, or backwards, or sideways, and the guards will catch him (there are a thousand guards), all prisoners will be shot dead immediatly. Each prisoner will then have to guess what is the color of his own hat. If he succeed he will live, if not, he will die. There is no fixed order of guessing, and the prisoners can decide together, or individually, on the order of guessing. The king further decides that from all the prisoners that guessed wrong he would pardon one, the one he liked most, and that any prisoner that wouldn’t guess anything in 10 minutes will be hanged. The prisoners have all day and all night to decide what they want to do. They are all very attached to each other, and each one will gladly sacrifice his own life to save another, and therefore they decide to think of a way in which the least possible number of them would die. It is also known that there is no eclipse tomorrow. What should they do ?

All puzzles have ONE solution only!

Alright, before you claim that some puzzle has more than one solution, do this: 1. For Samurai puzzles, read this article 2. For other puzzles, make sure the puzzle is not an “X” (diagonal) 3. For puzzles from The Washington Post and The Express, read this post (and also read the article from point 1). If you still think both (all) of your solutions are correct, make a post in the forum in the appropriate topic. The forum is located here. It is yet to be shown that ANY puzzle I created had more than one solution. A few have tried – but all of them have failed.
